The ICT for Development Platform, Geneva 2003
A mandate from the Swiss governmentOtto Frei AG was mandated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) to manage the logistics of the ICT for Development Platform. About the ICT for Development PlatformThe ICT for Development Platform was the major parallel event at the first phase of the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Consisting of a high-level forum, conference and exhibition, the ICT for Development Platform aimed to enrich the political core event of the Summit by focusing on the human dimension of Information Communication Technologies for the advancement of development across the world. The ICT for Development Platform was a new approach to engage the participation of multi-stakeholders active in the information society: governments, civil society organisations, the business sector and international organisations.
Dubbed as 'the heart of the WSIS', the ICT4D Platform hosted 38'000 visits and 265 participants from 80 countries. Thematic discussions on 5 focal areas helped to set the precedence for the follow-up event to take place at the second phase of the WSIS in Tunis 2005.
